What's the Best Floor Plan for a Family

Every family will have a different idea of what works best for them. If your family consists of you, your spouse and your four fur babies, you will want a different floor plan than if you had two twin toddlers. The way they we live our lives can truly be seen in the way our house is presented.   So, let’s talk about you! What kinds of things do you and your family like to do? Do you plan to grow your family? Would you prefer an open living space, large screened in lanai, maybe a big kitchen for your big Italian family? The options are endless!

Consider Your Lifestyle When Choosing A Home Layout

Think about what your day to day life looks like. Early risers may like to enjoy a morning cup of coffee in a screened in lanai or balcony. Night owls may want a dark room on the lower level or a room on a specific side of the house. If you have active kids, you may want to consider giving them their own space in a playroom or den. If you are professional and need your workspace, consider making an elegant office space or study.  We have all had moments of daydreaming about our homes. And although we may have a specific décor in mind, the floor plan is even more important. Start to ponder about the different levels you may want, what kind of space you need, and where you want your family and kids to be.  Your lifestyle is the single most important aspect to designing a home because it allows you to do what you love in a space that is created for it!

Should I Get An Open or Closed Floor Plan?

Goals! What are your goals for your space? If you plan to entertain and be that house that everyone gathers at, an open floor plan is what you need. In an open floor plan, you have the ability for different seating areas, play areas and just room to invite people into your home. You will also be able to include everyone in the house and not feel any seclusion. Closed floor plans allow your home design to be more separated and enclose in sound. This can work if you have a room specific for homework, musical instruments, or a play area. You may also want to consider looking into a two-story floor plan so there are designated areas for your specific lifestyle.

So What Is The Best Floor Plan for a Family?

Another thing to consider is the future. Where do you plan to stay for the next 3, 5, or 10 years? Are you planning to raise your children in this home as they grow? Do you plan to have more kids? There are so many factors you need to consider when choosing the best floor plan for your present and your future! When you are designing your home, walk through different models, and imagine what your life would be like in them!
